Dark Souls Looks Incredible on the PC, But Only If You Use This Patch

August 24, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

A fan has created a high resolution graphics patch for the PC version of Dark Souls.

Dark Souls is out for the PC, but it's an ugly, ugly port. Marred by the developer's inexperience with working on the PC platform, the game lacks resolution settings in spite of the high resolution textures it has on file.

With those textures in mind, a fan has put together a fix that aims to add high resolution support to the game. The game is locked to an internal resolution of 1024×720 by default, but the limitation can be removed with this simple patch. Weighing a negligable 80kb, you can download DSfix from the maker's site here.

In addition to adding higher resolution support, the latest version of the patch fixes issues with cut-off text, and button prompts. The patch also fixes downsampling and improves texture clarity, forcing 16xAF on every texture in the game.

A comparison between the vanilla version of Dark Souls for the PC (on the left) and the patched version (on the right) can be seen above.

As the patch has only just entered development, it may still have a few issues, but it should be nothing that will cause the game to crash.
