Valve’s digital distribution platform Steam has reached record users over the last few days, smashing its previous record of 12 million concurrent users. Based on the publicly available Steam & Game Statistics graph, the amount of concurrent players hit 14,370,167 at approximately 0500 hours.
Topping the most played games list are Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Grand Theft Auto V, and Football Manager 2017. Compared to last year’s most played games, the top five are remarkably similar with the exception of Fallout 4, which has since dropped out of the top ten rankings.
According to VG24/7, the most played game during peak user numbers was Dota 2 with 951,942 players, followed by Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in second place at 675,195 players.
Valve also recently announced its decision to provide full controller support across the entirety of Steam’s game library, meaning players will be now be able to map out controller buttons that correspond with keyboard and mouse controls (much like emulators).
