Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PS Vita Version Not Happening Due to “Free Cut” Requiring Lots of Hardware Power

August 21, 2012 by Alex Co

Konami reveals why there won’t be a PS Vita version of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Following our report last night that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was not a sure thing for PC, Kojima Productions Creative Producer Yuji Korekado also gives the reason why a PlayStation Vita won't be getting its own version.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Korekado states, "The reason is one of the main appeals of Metal Gear Rising is this option of the free cut. That requires a lot of hardware power, which is only possible with the power of a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360."

"Free cut" is, of course, Metal Gear Rising's game mechanic that lets the game's protagonist — Raiden — cut his enemies anyway he likes. By that, I mean, the player is given free control on how Raiden's blade is controlled and in what direction it slashes.

So, there you have it. Don't expect a ninja Raiden on the PlayStation Vita anytime soon. Unless, of course, it's a downsized port that doesn't allow "free cutting" in anyway. But if that's the case, what's the appeal of the game then, no?

Is this a downer for you or you weren't even considering getting a PS Vita version even if there was one intended?
