Hacker Wins Blacklight $1000

August 21, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Offering money to get people to play your game is a very viable way of getting new players. Unless those players are hackers, that is.

The folks behind Blacklight Retribution are currently running a competition in which they're giving away $1000 a day to a random player. All you need to do to grab the gold is join and play through a single game. The more games you play, the more likely you are to win, but that shouldn't be too much of a struggle considering how much fun Blacklight really is.

Except offering that amount of money to get people to play your game comes with consequences, and from what I've heard Blacklight has become near unplayable since the competition started. Hackers have taken to playing more and more often in an attempt at winning the money and they're bringing with them a variety of aim hacks, wall hacks and whatever else it takes for a person to compete well at a game these days.

Hacking won't increase the chances of winning the money, but it's an odd statement on Perfect World's ability to moderate their own game if they plan to give $1000 to somebody actively ruining the game. After complaints on both the forums and a video hitting Youtube, the name of the winner has been changed and we can only presume that the cheater has been banned. Still, if the community hadn't self-moderated, things could have turned out differently.
