The Devs Behind Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Games Kickstart Mercenary Kings

August 16, 2012 by Lana Polansky

New action game project brings with it interesting crafting system swag designed by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Tribute Games, the developers who brought us Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, have launched a new Kickstarter project for Mercenary Kings, a 2D action games that combines “precise platforming action and a compelling crafting system,” according to the project page.

The project, which aims to reach a $75, 000 goal, has already reached $12,690 in just a couple of days of being live.

The game itself offers slick, quirky sidescrolling, mission-based action with the art style of Paul Robertson and an interesting weapons system based on crafting.

“Accomplish various missions to unfold the story and gather materials dropped by defeated enemies to craft your weapon of choice. Any part of your weapon is customizable, each one altering the effect of your attack. Create an arsenal of weapons either to match your own play style or to match the challenge of a specific mission,” the page explains.

If this isn’t enough to want to support this very cool idea, higher tier backer rewards include, among other things, a limited edition hoodie designed by Scott Pilgrim vs. The World writer Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Mercenary Kings, which was initially conceived in 2010, will have a “strong focus on cooperative play,” and will initially include 4-player local multiplayer available for PC. But, as the project develops, the team plans to support more platforms and online play, “if resources allow it.”

The project still has 28 days to go, ending on September 13, 2012.
