In the lead-up to Naughty Dog’s announcement of The Last of Us 2, Lead Game Designer Emilia Schatz was secretly at work on a project of her own. Feeling inspired by a scene from the game’s teaser trailer, she began constructing an amigurumi crochet Ellie.
Schatz has posted step by step instructions on how to make your own Ellie, posted in a pdf file on Naughty Dog’s blog. She acknowledges that while the process demands quite a bit of precise handiwork, the final result is more than worthwhile:
“It’s a lot of meticulous work, but at the end you’ll have your very own post-apocalyptic heroine to take with you everywhere. Or put her in a place of honor playing guitar on the edge of your PS4 console! So, totally worth it.”
At the end of her post, Schatz encourages fans to submit their own The Last of Us and Uncharted themed creations.
There is no expected release date for The Last of Us 2 at the time of writing. Creative Director Neil Druckmann has previously mentioned Naughty Dog will “hold off on saying when it’s going to come out”until the team feels confident.
