Following news that three management staff has left People Can Fly, Epic Games has now confirmed that they now wholly own the studio.
While Epic — the owners of the Gears of War franchise and the Unreal Engine — has had a majority stake on the studio since 2007, Epic now fully own the studio responsible for last year's "kill with skill" FPS Bulletstorm.
Mark Rein, president of Epic Games, states that this acquisition won't affect People Can Fly's development of Gears of War: Judgment. and added, "We doubled down on People Can Fly…It was something we always hoped to do."
This buy out was ultimately the reason for the departure of Chmielarz, Poznanski and Kosieradzk, However, it was an amicable departure and Rein even admits, "We will be helping (Chmielarz) with some future announcements" and added, "our paths will cross again."
I think a congrats are in order…both for Epic and People Can Fly, no? Do you think Epic made the right move in regards to the studio? We'll know for sure once Gears of War: Judgment hits next year.
