PS Vita Needs Third Party Support

August 9, 2012 by Jen Shaffer

You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes…

The PlayStation Vita's sales record looks very similar to that of the PlayStation 3. The slow and steady increase in sales is indicative of new IPs, the expansion of the game library, and affordability factors. Unfortunately for Sony, the PS Vita is having trouble enticing third party developers to create for the powerful handheld.

In an interview with Playstation: The Official Magazine, Sony's Studio President, Shuhei Yoshida said, "We’re having a more difficult time than we had anticipated in terms of getting support from third-party publishers, but that’s our job.

“We will continue to talk to development communities and publishing partners and tell them why Vita can provide a great experience for the IPs they have and I hope the Assassin’s Creed game will prove that."

The Vita has a lot of potential for independent studios and Yoshida hopes to attract these smaller developers to help grow the Vita and PS Mobile market.
