The Last Guardian Trademark Abandoned

August 9, 2012 by Jen Shaffer

Elaborate marketing scheme activated!

The trademark for Team Ico's latest project, The Last Guardian, has been abandoned, however that doesn't mean the game has been canceled. Sony has had the trademark for more than three years, but let it go on August 6th.

The last word about the project came from Scott Rohde who said in June that The Last Guardian would ship "when it is absolutely ready." Rohde went on to note that Sony had no deadline in place for the game. He stressed the importance of being prepared when it came to a title of such significance, and then went on to say nothing else about The Last Guardian.

Just because the trademark has been left on the side of a lonely road, like so many red-headed stepchildren, doesn't spell the end for the Team Ico series. We have dragged Yorda around, we have ridden Agro, we have taken down colossi, and the community is ready to ride a giant puppy and solve more environment puzzles.
