Rumour: Thief 4 Will be Next-gen

August 8, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Multiple reports seem to indicate that Thief 4 on current consoles has been ditched, with development now focussing on making it a launch title for next-gen consoles

First appearing in OXM UK's 'Gossip' section, it seems that Thief 4 is now a next-gen only title. Ditching PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Eidos Montreal's next title in the long running series will allegedly appear only on the next round of consoles, with a release window placed some time at the end of next year.

Reported on by CVG and confirmed with their sources, if this turns out to be true, long-time fans without current gaming PCs will be expected to buy into the next generation of consoles if they want to see where the series goes next.  Of course, take it all with a pinch of salt. Thief 4 has apparently been in development for four years and a cancellation of current-gen versions of the game would mean big things going on behind the scenes.

Still, can't disregard anything at this point, but wait for official information before you start building a "next-gen fund."
