Meet Archive.vg, The IMDB for Videogames

August 3, 2012 by Lana Polansky

Beta for new videogame database launched this past week.

Finally, a dedicated archive for videgames has been created. Quite simply, and befittingly called Archive.vg, the site provides users with  a nifty compendium of games and apps, as well as a forum—not unlike IMDB—as well as a blog and account registration page.

The site, which launched for the general public this week, is still in beta, but the UI and aesthetic are simple and easy to navigate and it seems to have great potential as a database: currently users are able to search for games and apps using a search field which prompts a drop-down window to appear. Users can also file through an encyclopaedic list of games organized alphabetically.

Looking up a game provides the user with an overview of the title, an image and video tab and release details—however, specific game information akin to what you’d find on a game’s Wiki page (platform, developer, designer, etc) appears to still be missing, as well as some videos and assets.

The people behind the site are front-end developer and UI designer Craig Erskine, database maintainer Richard Dolinsky, videographer Adam Hendrickson and Archive.vg mobile app developer Auston Stewart (the app is not yet available in the App Store but he promises it will be soon).  For those interested in getting to know the team, short interviews with each member is up on the blog.
