Apple Working on Controller for iOS

July 27, 2012 by Mat Growcott

It’s the long-held fear of gamers everywhere – Apple releasing a controller for their previously touch-only devices.

There's a lot of reasons why the self-styled hardcore gamer dislikes iOS games, and the reasons usually stem from the thought that every game released is some watered down experience over in moments and designed purely for the non-focussed casual mind. One of the big reasons that's cited time and time again is the lack of a controller and it's true that playing something like Dead Space can be workable, but not ideal.

With the submittion of a patent by Apple, discovered by GameRevolution, it seems things are about to change. The patent reveals that Apple have been at least designing an official controller for use with iOS systems, especially the Apple TVs. Whether the controller will ever actually see the light of day is something completely different, but it seems as though the company sees the gap in their gaming potential and is looking to fill it.

This is one to watch, because where it leads might mean big things for the gaming industry.
