Battlefield 3: Aftermath Adds New Game Mode, Four New Maps

July 26, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

An expansion to Battlefield 3 is expected to add a new game mode, new maps, and a host of other gameplay content.

DICE has just revealed the first ever details about Battlefield 3: Aftermath, an upcoming DLC for BF3.

Aftermath will be set amongst the shattered districts, streets and villages of a post-earthquake Tehran, as depicted in the game’s single player campaign. The expansion will portray the continued struggle for supremacy between the US and Iranian forces within the ruins of the city.

DICE says that both forces will have to deal with a “severely compromised operational capacity” and must adapt and engage in urban combat amongst the dust and rubble of the city and its surrounding areas. The maps will offer both vertical and horizontal combat, giving both long- and short-ranged weapons plenty of opportunity to be used.

Aftermath will see the addition of a new game mode to make full use of the conditions within the four new maps added in the expansion. No details about the new mode have been revealed, but players are expected to take control of various points on the map and earn reinforcements for their efforts. Additional support will come in the form of heavily modified troop transports and civilian vehicles designed to traverse the ruins.

Aftermath will add a host of new weapons and vehicles, in addition to new assignments, achievements, and dog tags to unlock.

Battlefield 3: Aftermath will be available in December 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As with the previous DLCs, players on the PlayStation 3 can expect to get it a week before everyone else.
