The V Motion Project consists of programmers, dancers, and electronic musicians, who’ve collaborated to design a body-controlled musical instruments that harnesses the unique capabilities of the Microsoft Kinect.
The team has basically created a piece of software that turns body motions into music. The software works by using two Kinect units to detect the dancer, who then uses his or her body to issue commands to a music-creation software called Ableton Live.
Strictly experimental, the V Motion Project takes a lot of getting used to, but it could come in pretty handy for any electronic music DJ or dance troupe to put on a show before a live audience using music created, or sampled through Ableton.
