Overwatch Patch 1.5 Will Add Improvements to Reporting, Less Abuse

October 27, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Changes are being made to the reporting system to prevent bad players from abusing it.

Players in Overwatch are largely nice, decent players—like in any other game—but bad eggs do exist to spoil the fun for everyone else. To that end, Blizzard has taken notice of complaints about the limitations of its reporting system and has plans to buff it up in the upcoming patch.

Due to the objective-focused nature of the game and small player count, it can be very easy for some gamers to get overly competitive and get upset when things don’t go their way, leading to abuse and insults at players they deem less competitive—or even enemies, for killing them.

Some players will even go as far as to abusing the reporting system to penalize gamers who choose unpopular champions. As it stands, players who receive enough reports will be muted from chatting, but this has also led to abuse.

In a thread about the lackluster reporting system and what Blizzard can do to improve it, Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan weighed in on the issue to state that changes will be made to solve these problems.

“We’re actively working on this right now,” said Kaplan. “It’s going to take some time for all of the changes we want to do to get implemented. But starting in Patch 1.5 you’ll start to see the early beginnings of change to the reporting system. More changes will come in subsequent patches.”

We’ll tell you what comes of it.
