Nintendo CEO Claims 3DS Software Will Continue Post Nintendo Switch Launch

October 26, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Will the Nintendo 3DS last after the Nintendo Switch launches?

Nintendo 3DS

Last week we got the reveal of Nintendo’s upcoming video game console. Known before as the Nintendo NX, we now know that the console will be called the Nintendo Switch and several of the rumored and leaked reports for the console has proven to be true. One of the reports that really caught attention online was that the console would be a hybrid.

That particular rumor proved to be true in the Nintendo Switch reveal trailer. Gamers will be able to enjoy the Nintendo Switch as a home console while also being able to take the device for on-the-go gaming. This has sparked the question as to if we’ll see the Nintendo 3DS platform come to an end.

According to Nintendo Life, the CEO of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, has revealed that software will continue to be supported for the Nintendo 3DS post Nintendo Switch’s launch. This doesn’t confirm just how long the portable handheld device will last, but since it’s proven to be a popular gaming device for gamers all around the world, it’s not a total shock we would see this console live on for some time to come.

Additionally, the Nintendo Switch seems to be aimed more towards an older audience with their trailer reveal. After all, this would likely be an expensive unit to replace when dropped carelessly by a young child, but this remains to be seen still.

With several questions left unanswered for both the Nintendo Switch and the current Nintendo 3DS, only time will tell just what Nintendo company has in store for us gamers.
