Materia Collective’s Hero of Time is an ambitious musical project with the goal of breathing new life into a well-beloved Nintendo classic, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The plan is to record all new arrangements of key themes from the game with a 64 piece orchestra and release the music in digital, CD, and vinyl formats.

Hero of Time is currently on Kickstarter with a goal of $50,000 to reach by Sunday, October 30th. They are currently halfway to that goal with $25,000 left to raise in this final week. With successful funding of this project, Hero of Time will be recorded live with a full orchestra in one of the world’s top destinations for professional recording sessions, Bratislava.

Hero of Time is a musical retelling of the story of Ocarina of Time, which includes key moments that occur before the game, and during Link’s concealment for 7 years. While you can enjoy each track individually, the album is designed to be listened to from beginning to end.

In order to retell the complete story of the game, the tracks have been designed to focus on one central aspect of the story, with additional elements of related material incorporated throughout. For example, a track about the Gerudo Valley segment of the game might also include references to Spirit Temple and Requiem of Spirit. There will be approximately 20 total tracks.

“Ocarina of Time is a story all about the passage of time and the beauty of impermanence and mortality. It’s a journey from childhood through adulthood and from life to death. The message is echoed across the entire world of Hyrule all throughout the game.”

The team behind Hero of Time worked on successful Zelda projects such as Zelda Reorchestrated, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Symphony (which was also successfully funded and delivered via Kickstarter), the bonus CD that shipped with all copies of Skyward Sword, and of course The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses International Tour.

With the successful completion of the Kickstarter project, Hero of Time is expected to be recorded this December and released in March 2017.
