EA Hasn’t Lost Faith in Mirror’s Edge 2

July 13, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

The publisher of Mirror’s Edge says that a sequel may yet be possible.

Mirror's Edge 2

It's been awhile since the release of Mirror's Edge. Despite the game's critical reception, it sold rather poorly, prompting EA to shelve the development of a sequel in favor of more profitable ventures.

However, there is still a chance that Mirror's Edge 2 will be developed. In a recent interview with Game Informer, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said that a sequel remains on the table, and that its development is "really about how and when" to resurrect the series. In other words, they're just looking for the right time to put it out.

"We have nothing to announce," said Gibeau. "We love Faith. We love the property. It's really about how and when do you bring it back?

"It's on the list. It's just about looking at what teams are available, who's got the right quality approach to it, and who understands it."

The original Mirror's Edge was released in a climate where gamers were less open to narrative-driven experiences. Most of the games at the time were mainstream titles focused on shooting and combat. The time for a sequel to be released and receive both critical acclaim and success in the marketplace may be fast approaching as gamers have shown themselves to be more receptive of less-mainstream titles as of late.

If Mirror's Edge 2 should ever come out, it'll likely be for the next generation of consoles.
