The cyberpunk videogame starring Adam Jensen may be headed to the silver screen as CBS Films announced today their acquisition of the Deus Ex license to do a film adaptation of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh have been attached to produce the film, which will be developed by CBS Films in collaboration with Deus Ex developer Eidos Montreal.
"As is clear from the wild success of the game, Square Enix and Eidos-Montreal know how to exceed their audience's expectations by engineering incredible worlds," said Terry Press, co-president of CBS Films. "No one knows 'Human Revolution' like the team that created it, and we look forward to working with them from day one to make a film adaptation worthy of the 'Deus Ex' name."
Set in the year 2027, multinational corporations vie for dominance over the global markets as biotechnology and human augmentation become commonplace. Like the game itself, the film’s script will follow the ordeals of Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must learn to embrace the loss of his limbs and deal with the prosthetics they’ve been replaced with as he attempts to unravel a global conspiracy which lead to the attack on the biotech firm he works at.
In addition to Deus Ex, Askarieh has a second Hitman movie and adaptations of Just Cause and the Kane and Lynch franchise also in development.
The movie had better star Elias Toufexis, the voice of Adam Jensen, or I won't be watching it.
