CV of Ex-Sony R&D Director Suggests Sony has been Working on PS4 since August 2010

July 2, 2012 by Alex Co

A CV of a former Sony R&D director heavily suggests that Sony has been working on the PS3’s successor as early as August 2010.

While Sony and Microsoft won't publicly admit it, it really does seem like we're about a year away from seeing the next generation of console gaming. We've gotten hints and leaks from various CVs and job listings…and it seems we might have another one just now.

Attila Vass, who's LinkedIn Profile states that he has worked as director of research and development (R&D) at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) between May 1998, up to April 2012, claims that he began work on the graphics library and security of the "next generation of PlayStation" in August 2010.

Of course, it's easy to assume that he might mean this is for the PS Vita, but seeing as he lists his work on the handheld separately, it's hard to argue that he means nothing else except the PlayStation 4 in this regard.

I worked on graphics ( COLLADA, PSGL ) and a lot of network related technologies ( advertising, telemetry, PVRs ) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms. Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years…

I don't know about you, but that does seem like a confirmation at this point, no? Of course its also worth pointing out that this is nothing new when it comes to the development of new gaming hardware. Most of the time, once a new platform has been launched, the company's R&D department start on its successor straight away.

What this proves among other things is that the likelihood of us seeing the PS4 next year is very, very likely.

Are you ready for next gen consoles or should Sony and Microsoft squeeze a little more juice out before replacing them with newer tech?
