Crytek: Homefront 2 “No Tangible Change” Despite THQ’s Struggles

June 21, 2012 by Alex Co

Cevat Yerli states that their development of Homefront 2 is "isolated" from THQ’s woes.

We all know by now that THQ's not exactly in the best of health financially. So, does this mean that the publisher's restructuring will affect every game in THQ's portfolio?

While Crytek can't speak for everyone involved, Cevat Yerli has gone on record and states that their development of Homefront 2 hasn't been affected one bit.

Pretty much zero. There's been no tangible change what-so-ever. There have been a few meetings and the introduction of people and those meetings are always very transparent.

Aside from that, Yerli adds that Crytek is developing Homefront 2 in a "very isolated way," and that they're being given free rein by THQ to do what they want.

To be fair, the way we're developing Homefront 2 is very isolated anyway. We're treating it as our own new IP and at the same time THQ is respecting us and saying, 'you guys know what you're doing' and telling us the story they'd like to have, which we're collaborating creatively on.

Homefront 2 is, of course, the sequel to last year's much-maligned military shooter by KAOS Studios. The game didn't exactly set the FPS world on fire and while it did manage to sell over two million units worldwide, it was universally considered a flop for THQ.

Homefront 2 is being developed by Crytek Nottingham, formerly known as Free Radical (Timesplitters), and they developed the multiplayer component for Crysis 2.

Hopefully, this means Homefront 2 will at least be on par with Crysis 2. While the game still doesn't have a firm release date, what do you want to see from it? Or is it doomed to drown over all the attention Call of Duty and Battlefield's getting?
