Ubisoft: We Went with “Something Different” and Explosive for Blacklist at E3 to Get Noticed

June 19, 2012 by Alex Co

Ubisoft admits the reason they didn’t show off Splinter Cell: Blacklist as a stealth game straight away was to attract new fans.

Just last night we reported on how Splinter Cell: Blacklist is not going the "Call of Duty" route of big set-pieces after another — despite what we saw at Ubisoft's Blacklist reveal at E3.

The question is, why did Ubisoft show that particular bits to begin with? Well, as it turns out, it's just to get noticed at the show.

Speaking to VG247, Patrick Redding, the game's director, had this to say.

I think the important thing to remember about E3 is you’re always out to make a splash, to make your mark, to make sure everybody sees you in the backdrop of the other games which are out there,” he said. “So we kind of needed to go with something that was a little bit different and explosive, and maybe even a little controversial in terms of the franchise.

Redding also states that they're going to have a "conversation with more established fans who like stealth play;" and adds that they're going to address this issue "in the coming months."

Hopefully, this "coming months" thing means Gamescom in August, no?

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is scheduled for release in 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

What would you like to see in Blackist in the coming months?
