Splinter Cell Movie Looking for Studio

June 15, 2012 by Mat Growcott

Ubisoft are shipping around the rights to a Splinter Cell movie and, should they find a studio willing to pick it up, we’ll be one step closer to seeing Sam Fisher sneak to the big screen.

Ubisoft are trying to find studio backing for a film based upon the Splinter Cell IP, Deadline has revealed. Originally there had been talks with Warner Bros, but now the Assassin's Creed/Rayman publisher is in talks with Paramount, a company that has previously created works based around Tom Clancy's work. Ubisoft is looking to retain a certain amount of control over the film in order to make it as true to the games as possible.

Call my cynical, but I think we may have just discovered why Michael Ironside was dropped from the latest Splinter Cell game. I admit this is completely wild speculation on my part, but it fits. I'm not sure how the former Sam Fisher could reprise the role on the big screen and it'd be a joke trying to replicate that voice with another actor. Eric Johnson, however, is now the face and voice of Sam Fisher and that means reprising the role in a Splinter Cell movie will not only look natural, but fit neatly alongside the video game series.

Of course, that might just be a neat side-effect from the new arrangement.
