AMDs Bristol Ridge Shipping Soon

September 5, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

AMD introduces their 7th generation AMD A-Series processor.

AMD Bristol Ridge-970-80

AMD has just revealed their seventh generation AMD A-series desktop processors which are known as Bristol Ridge. This will definitely pack a bit more power in your desktop while also being more power efficient compared to the last generation processor from AMD.

There are a few aspects that are worth mentioning when it comes to AMD’s Bristol Ridge processors. For starters, the processor will use up to four Excavator cores which will cover a power band of 65 to 35 watts. Likewise, the latest processor will allow users watch 4K Ultra HD media in both H.264 and H.265 formats.

Kevin Lensing, Corporate VP and general manager of computing and graphics for AMD stated the following within the press release sent over earlier today.

“We are excited for the first consumer release of the AMD AM4 socket and the first integration of our 7th Generation AMD A-Series processors into desktop devices.  At AMD, we are continually working to drive innovation that our customers want, including superior energy efficiency and the best streaming and graphics capabilities available.”

When it comes to gaming, this processor does have some future proofing as it will support Microsoft’s DirectX 12. Gamers will find that there is DDR4 memory available which will help with processing speeds, gaming, and HD streaming.

For now, there are two desktop OEMs that will be using this processor currently which are HP and Lenovo. However, as time goes on, there will likely be other manufacturers who will use the latest generation processor.
