EA Nabs UFC License from THQ

June 4, 2012 by Alex Co

EA seems to have scored a coup as it managed to wrestle the UFC License away from THQ!

In what could be considered EA's "megaton" news for E3, the publisher has revealed that they're now the license-holders for the biggest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) brand in the world — the UFC.

UFC president Dana White took to the stage to announce the agreement and he shared that they now have the capacity to let people from all over the world experience the UFC videogames. While this might be a slight dig at former license-holder THQ, he's not all wrong with his statement.

Aside from the announcement, no other detail was shared…no trailer, no screenshot, no nothing.

Of course, this is considered a big acquisition by EA; especially if you consider that EA's last MMA license Strikeforce, was bought out by the UFC.

Hopefully, we can expect EA to care for the UFC brand as much as its Fight Night boxing series — lest we go the yearly rehash route.

Would you buy an EA UFC game made from the Strikeforce MMA game engine?
