Dragon Age 2’s Failure Caused the Cancellation of Exalted March DLC, Development Refocused on Dragon Age 3

May 31, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

The failure of Dragon Age 2 has caused BioWare to refocus its efforts on developing a third Dragon Age game instead of making DLCs for DA2.

It may be hard to believe that anything relating to Dragon Age 2 could be good, given the almost overwhelmingly negative reception it received upon its release and in the months after from both fans of the series and the games media.

The disappointment of gamers outweighed any sales figures the game made upon its release, prompting BioWare to scrap a third full-fledged DLC it had planned to release for Dragon Age 2. The first DLC was titled Legacy, which came out a few months after the release of Dragon Age 2, and the second DLC was the Mark of the Assassin DLC starring Felicia Day, which received an "okay" Metacritic average of 76%, way below the studio's average reception for its titles.

The DLC the company had planned but eventually canceled was called Exalted March. According to BioWare writer Mark Darrah, "there were even shirts!"

Details are hazy on what the DLC would've been about exactly, but with Dragon Age 2 dead in the water, BioWare has since refocused its Dragon Age team onto the development of Dragon Age 3. They last spoke of it at this year's PAX East. We covered that here.
