Rocket League Continues to Attract New Players With Engaging Content

Rocket League has reached 20 million players.

Psyonix’s soccer-with-cars game Rocket League continues to add more players, more than a year after its release. The developer announced today that the game has reached 20 million players, but has not actually sold that many copies.

“Thank you to the best community ever!” Psyonix wrote on Twitter with the hashtag #EverybodyDance

Rocket League added an impressive figure of one million new players in less than a month, as July’s count stood at 19 million players. The game celebrated its first birthday that month as well.

Psyonix announced a series of year-one statistics, including that the PS4 is the game’s top platform, likely due to its launch as a free PlayStation Plus game last July.

Although the game has reached 20 million players, it has not sold that many copies. Since the game offers split-screen play, each individual PlayStation Network and Xbox Gamertag is counted. This means the 20 million figure includes people who played Rocker League, but did not necessarily buy a copy.

Developed on a budget of $2 million, Rocket League has now raked in over $110 million in revenue from game and DLC sales.
