The next-gen of gaming is almost upon us and, in the run up to E3, we've heard a lot of people talking about where things could go from here. There are enough developers looking to hire people for the next round of consoles that it would be something of a surprise not to hear something over the next twelve months or so.
Earlier this week the LA Times released information on a contract between Activision-Blizzard and Halo-developer Bungie, detailing some of what you can expect from their next set of games in a franchise called Destiny. It is, you'll be shocked to hear, an FPS with a sci-fi theme, and will cover a planned four games. The first in the series will release in November 2013 and will be Xbox-exclusive, with release on both the 360 and the 720 (the name of the console as published by the LA Times).
I've seen nothing that implies Destiny will be a launch title on the 720, so it's possible that the console will come earlier than that (although I've not seen the original document, so that's a presumption based on other people's work), but it certainly seems that by Christmas 2013 at the latest we'll be playing the next Xbox.
