No Man’s Sky Maintains A Stable Framerate On PS4

August 9, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Here’s how well No Man’s Sky performs on console.

no man's sky 02
No Man’s Sky
is a relatively well optimized game, but there are parts on the PS4 version of the game during which the game’s framerate may drop below 30.

The game, which has no loading screens and plays in a completely seamless fashion uses some technology that allows the game to algorithmically populate the world using voxels.

Digital Foundry, which runs benchmarks of all the latest games, reports that the title runs at a native 1080p resolution on the PS4 and is capped to a framerate of 30fps. In contrast, the PC version is said to support 21:9 ultrawide resolutions along with uncapped framerate.

The tests run by the site show that the game manages to stick closely to its 30fps cap, but there are times when the performance drops, notably during atmospheric entry of new, previously undiscovered planets.

Players should however be unaffected by any framerate drops during normal play as they explore planets on the ground.

The game should be out now for the PS4 and the PC version is due on August 12.
