Comic-Con Pokemon Go Panel Reveals New Game Details

July 24, 2016 by Nick Monroe

At Comic-Con, Niantic confirms trading, shows off Team Leaders, and gives a glimpse into Pokemon Go’s future.

The overwhelming level of success that Pokemon Go saw at it’s launch came just in time for Niantic to get a major upgrade to the expansive Hall H at Comic-Con. That change certainly wasn’t for waste, as John Hanke and Niantic used that opportunity to drop some Pokemon Go knowledge bombs on the crowd of fans and attendees that came to the game’s panel.

The closest reveal we got on the Legendary Birds is that Niantic assigned to the teams associated with them. (source)

LegendaryBirdsPokemonGoWhich as you can see from the header of this very article, also had an announcement of it’s own. The leaders of Team Mystic, Valor, and Instinct finally have a physical visual appearance, rather than just the previous silhouette from before. Niantic is planning for them to be more involved with the player’s gameplay in the future.

When it came to gameplay features, Hanke said more Pokemon from the other generations may eventually find their way into the Pokemon Go universe. PokeStops will have an evolution of their own in the future. More elaborate customization options are in the works, so the idea of a Pokemon Center is definitely some kind of possibility. A trading feature is in development, but not currently ready for release, nor do they know any sort of release date for it to come out yet.

Hanke stated he and the team were aware of the “three step” Nearby menu bug, as well as the Gym poaching exploits by some players. The main focus for Niantic right now is making sure the game as it is runs smoothly. “We’re working really hard to keep the servers up and running… It’s at the top of our priority list,” Hanke said.

Only a tenth of the team’s ideas for the Pokemon Go app are in the current game release. The Eevee evolution trick was confirmed to be legitimate by Niantic themselves. They said other “Easter Eggs” like it haven’t been discovered yet.
