Ys: VIII is the most substantial game in the series.
Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo had a few things to say in an interview with Dengeki Playstation 4. The game Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana he said, is the most substantial game in the series with a release date for Japan on PS Vita July 21st, and for PS4 in 2017.
The game is estimated to take 40 hours if only the minimum is completed, and 60 hours with side elements. The game is expected to have dual protagonists because they wanted the perspective to be from someone other than Adol.
The PS Vita version will have a Boss Time Attack feature and loading screen tips but Falcom is still thinking about what they would like to implement in the PlayStation 4 version.
2016 is also the series’ 30th anniversary so to mark this milestone Kondo wants to plan an event. Although this may be difficult since they are very busy with the Playstation 4 version of Ys:VIII.
Toshihiro Kondo has passed on the company’s high hopes for the reception of the game. He says he thinks “Even internally Ys VIII turned out to be a great game, and even first-time players can enjoy it, so we definitely hope you’ll pick it up.”
Falcom’s other notable game that was announced in 2015, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is in development and is aiming for a 2017 release.
