Pokemon Go International Rollout “Paused” Due to Server Overload

July 11, 2016 by Nick Monroe

The rest of the world is going to have to wait a bit longer for Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go is incredibly popular so far after it’s initial release in select countries last week. So much in fact, that the game’s release to the rest of the world will have to be pushed back a bit, in order to meet the overwhelming demand.

John Hanke told Business Insider that they’re aware of the server problem, and that they’re working around the clock on fixing the issue. But that means Pokemon Go’s international release to places like the United Kingdom and Netherlands  is momentarily “paused until we’re comfortable,” according to Hanke.

While it’s common for online games to encounter an overload in demand, Hanke admits that interest was underestimated when it came to predicting the public’s reception to Pokemon Go. “We thought the game would be popular, but it obviously struck a nerve,” he said.

Pokemon Go is available on the iOS and Android stores in select countries.
