Hello Games Explains No Man’s Sky E3 Disappearance

June 24, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Development team chose to stay home and further work on video game.

E3 2016 was a big event in terms of video games. We might not have seen too much of new hardware, but there was plenty of announcements and gameplay footage shown off for the upcoming video game releases. However, there was one title that seemed to be amiss from the expo and that’s Hello Games No Man’s Sky. Now that some time has passed, we’re finally getting word on the game’s missing appearance.

No Man’s Sky has a massive following already and there’s plenty of hype building for this video games release. However, it was strange to see that this title was missing from any showing at this year’s E3 event. The reason behind Hello Games not attending the event was to simply stay home and continue to work at a stable and entertaining video game release.

After a fan tweeted out to the official No Man’s Sky Twitter account, Sean Murray replied stating that the development team had two options for E3. Either attend the event and build more hype for the upcoming video game release or stay home and make the game even better, the group ultimately choose the latter.

things we could have done last week:
1) gone to e3 to build more hype
2) made our game better

we did number 2 🙂

Likewise, more information was given out on the upcoming video game through the official No Man’s Sky blog. Sean Murray, head of Hello Games, wrote up a small post to give fans an update on the progress of their upcoming video game release, which you can read in full down below.

“Hello, Sean here, working super, super hard on No Man’s Sky.

Every day, the game is getting better and better, and despite all the late nights (and early mornings) we’re all working to get it finished and in your hands, it’s amazing to see it all coming together.

You might already know this, but we had to delay the game from its original June release date. It’s now August 9 in north America, and August 10 in Europe. We knew that people would be disappointed, and we’ve certainly heard a lot from some who decided to tell us all about that. But we’ve also heard some super nice words of support as we make the final push.

I’ve said it before, but No Man’s Sky is the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. It’s even bigger than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

So that’s what we’re doing right now, and every day I feel more sure it was the right decision. Thank you so much for your support and patience. The universe will be yours very soon.”
