Original Resident Evil 2 Director Would Nag Capcom For Remake

June 23, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Kazunori Kadoi may be directing the remake.

It’s not just the fans of video games that would provoke publishers to remake some of their favorite video games. Sometimes it’s the developers themselves as we now have word that the original Resident Evil 2 director would consistently bug Capcom to remake the survival-horror title. Now imagine his excitement that after all these years, Resident Evil 2 will be remastered for the latest generation of consoles.

Speaking to Polygon, Resident Evil 2 director, Hideki Kamiya, revealed that he would pester Capcom on remastering the classic video game title. Even though Hideki Kamiya left Capcom in 2006 in order to pursue his co-founded studio, PlatinumGames, the director would still keep tabs with his friends from Capcom.

“Behind the scenes, I go drinking with Jun Takeuchi quite often. Every time I would go drinking with him I would pester him: ‘You’re going to remake that, right? You’re going to remake that, right? You’re going to remake that, right?’ And he’d say, ‘No, we’re busy with other games.’”

Last year the announcement was released that Capcom would once again revisit the Resident Evil 2 video game and remaster it for the latest generation of consoles. However, it’s not revealed quite yet who is directing the game, but Polygon did get some hints.

“No, I’m not directly involved [in the Resident Evil 2 remake]. But the director of the remake is actually somebody who joined Capcom the same year that I did.

We worked closely together on the Resident Evil design team. We were both game designers. When [Resident Evil 2] started, I went to direct that game. He went and worked on Mega Man Legends. We go out drinking now and again, and one time he was like, ‘By the way, I’m directing the remake of RE2.’ I was like, ‘What? You’re doing what?!’ After I heard that, I felt like … we need to go drinking some more.”

This could mean that Kazunori Kadoi would be directing the video game remake, however, that is pure speculation as Capcom has yet to comment on the matter.
