According to a new reveal on GamesTM, Capcom's upcoming action-horror game Resident Evil 6 will be made up of 3 separate campaigns with intertwining stories.
The game's splintering narrative was revealed by RE6 executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and director Eiichiro Sasaki, who explained that each narrative would come with their own set of characters, and can be played in any order.
“In terms of length, each character’s story is a little bit less than Resident Evil 5 but when you combine them together you’re getting something that is much longer," said Sasaki. "While each character’s story stands alone, all of the characters wind up in the same area of the game, in China, so there is a certain level of overlap. They stand on their own but they do overlap in certain areas. You don’t have to play them all, of course.”
Kobayashi added that each narrative would have its own brand of horror, with Leon's campaign being along the lines of more traditional Gothic horror. Chris, on the other hand, would face suspenseful horror scenes. The new character, Jake (Wesker's son) is on the run and faces horrors of his own that are unique to his narrative.
"As far as gameplay goes, there are the core gameplay concepts but each character has their own unique gameplay features. So when you play as a different character you’ll be able to do different things that you couldn’t do with others," he said.
