Mechromancer Class Comes to Borderlands 2, Character Customization Revealed

April 9, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Borderlands 2 will feature a fifth playable character called the Mechromancer, a machine specialist.

Unlike the first Borderlands, Borderlands 2 will feature more than four classes with the addition of a new class called the Mechromancer.

In addition to the new class, Gearbox has also announced that also unlike the first game, players will now have to earn their new wardrobes and outfits by progressing through the game, completing quests, and ranking up. This way, player characters will vary in their looks instead of looking the same.

Players can earn everything from costume pieces and gear to custom headpieces/masks within the game. Additionally, players who completed the original Borderlands will receive exclusive heads and skins for which to don their characters with.

According to Gearbox, the Mechromancer is still in development and will only be available post-release as a DLC. The female character is described as a mix of human and machine and controls a large mech called D374-TP, or Deathtrap. However, the character will be made available for free to anyone who pre-orders the game. There's no current price for the Mechromancer, but Gearbox says it'll be "comparable to most DLC."

Gearbox took the opportunity to announce a special edition of Borderlands 2, priced at a hefty $149.99, which comes in a specially designed loot box from the game. The package includes a Marcus bobblehead, the game, and some other goodies which have yet to be announced.
