Former Witcher Developer Announces “Project RPG”

April 7, 2012 by Ron Taylor

The producer of The Witcher is working on a new RPG for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Project RPG

While The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is only just now finding it's way to console players via the Xbox 360, the series former producer Tomasz Gop is already at work on a new project (via Digital Spy) in his new postion at German studio Dark13 working on "Project RPG".

With combat aiming for depth in simplicity (it's inspired by the likes of Dark Souls, Kingdoms of Amalur and, one of my personal favorites of last year, Batman: Arkham City) the story premise sounds similiar to Xenoblade Chronicles.

The world lies on the corpse of a fallen god with a divide seperating two very different factions you'll need to choose allegiance to early on. The remainder of the plot will shape itself based on your choices and playstyle.

The game is still only in the planning stages, but it's being published by City Interactive with development planned for the Xbox 360. PlayStation 3, and of course PC. Dark13 aim's to have the title out in 2013.

The admiration show for Gop and his former studio after both The Witcher and it's sequel are enough to peek my interest, but this being the first I've heard of Dark13, I'm not quite betting all my chips. That said, the base concept and the ideas supporting it sound rock solid. It's development should be an interesting story to watch unfold, indeed.
