Mass Effect: Andromeda Starts a Clean Slate

June 20, 2016 by Nick Monroe

Your Mass Effect original trilogy choices are left behind in this new game.

MEAndromedaHeaderOne of the biggest mysteries of EA’s E3 press conference was the latest Mass Effect entry. Thanks to the folks at Eurogamer, we’ve got some solid answers as to why Mass Effect: Andromeda starts over.

According to Aaryon Flynn of Bioware, they wanted the new game to start the Mass Effect franchise fresh. “We acknowledged it in the endings of Mass Effect 3 and I think that’s where we want to leave it for now,” he said. “We’ve done it in such a way that allows all of those decisions you made to remain intact in the canon of the universe, but also allows a new story to begin,” Aaryon added further.

The basic idea of what the Eurogamer article suggests is that the Mass Effect universe will still have the same familiar elements of the original trilogy when it comes to Alien races, exploration, and gameplay aspects like that. But Andromeda will tell an overall separate storyline than we’ve ever had before in the series.

Mass Effect: Andromeda wasn’t prominently shown off too much at EA’s E3 Press Conference, but we did get a more extended peek at the game moreso than previously.

“There’s definitely more stuff we could have shown or talked about,” Flynn said. “But now we’re shipping next spring, the time to really blast all that out there is after the other games come out. We’ll be there then to have a great big reveal and release all the details.”
