The original Xbox game Phantom Dust is getting an HD remake for the Xbox One and the PC. Phantom Dust was planned to be rebooted for the Xbox One, but the project was canceled and Microsoft severed all ties with the game’s developer Yukio Futatsugi. This seems to be an HD remaster of the game rather than a reboot, which for someone like me who never played the original, is quite interesting.
The original game came out in 2004 as an Xbox-exclusive. It was a unique, stylish cult classics that, unfortunately, didn’t get the sales numbers it deserves. With the right pricing and marketing, Phantom Dust could get a better chance to reaching a much wider audience.
Phantom Dust was a real-time action card battle game where deck building and high speed combine in a post apocalyptic science fantasy setting. It is a very stylish and rather challenging game, and I have to say, I can’t wait to see its return and finally get to give it a try.
Phantom Dust HD is scheduled for release in 2017 on Xbox One and PC.
