Harmonix Charts a Rock Band Revival with Blitz

April 3, 2012 by Ron Taylor

Harmonix has revealed a brand new game!

Harmonix has announced Rock Band Blitz for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. The game is a spiritual successor of sorts to the developer's previous titles Frequency and Amplitude. All past and future downloadable content will be compatible with twenty-five new songs (to be announced) available in the base download, the title is expected to release this summer and it will be making an appearance at this week's Penny Arcade Expo East where it will be playable to the public.

The title comes after recent changes in the landscape for the music game genre. The space became much smaller in the wake of the plastic instrument boom as sales for Rock Band 3 and Acitivision's Guitar Hero franchise waned, but this is familiar territory for Harmonix who started out small and has had a relatively easy time getting reacquainted with the space. Their iOS title VidRhythym was released last year and was received warmly by consumers and critics alike. They're still active in the console space however, releasing Dance Central and Dance Central 2 for the Xbox 360's Kinect. Both have also been mainstream hits in their own right.
