June 12, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Skyrim is getting a major graphical overhaul and a release on current-gen consoles.

Confirming previous rumors that Bethesda would be remastering The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bethesda announced the Special Edition of the game, slated for release on the PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Unlike the Definitive Edition of Dishonored last year, the new Skyrim will also be coming out on the PC and will feature dramatically improved visuals with new effects, including god rays, snow shaders, and more. The Special Edition’s console versions will also support mods developed on the PC, provided that they’re uploaded to Bethesda’s online platform, following in the footsteps of Fallout 4, which now supports mods on the Xbox One and soon the PS4.

Skyrim Special Edition is slated for release on October 28 across all platforms. If you were planning to get back into the snowy wilderness of Skyrim, you might want to wait until then and finish your playthrough of Fallout 4 in the meantime.

Bethesda notes that anyone who owns the Legendary Edition of the game or all of its add-ons will get an upgrade to the Special Edition for free.
