Heroes of the Storm: Chromie Hero Review

June 2, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Chromie joins the Nexus. Here’s what she has to offer.

chromie
Chromie is the latest hero to join the ranks of Blizzard’s ever popular Heroes of the Storm. Hailing from the world of Warcraft, Chromie (real name Chronormu, for fans of the character) is a ranged assassin who specializes in dealing one-on-one damage to enemy heroes.

Though more than capable of dispensing death upon enemy minions and mercenaries, Chromie’s single-target damage dealing abilities make her a real force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, especially as a poker—meaning she can inflict heavy damage on opponents without ever needing to close the distance. That said, she’s best coupled with a Warrior hero to tank enemy attacks. A lone Chromie is ripe for the picking due to her low health pool and lack of mobility. However powerful she may be, Chromie is extremely vulnerable in melee range and plays as a glass cannon. For these very reasons, she should be considered a priority target if an enemy has her on their team.

Chromie has two main damaging abilities: Dragon’s Breath and Sand Blast. The former summons a dragon made of sand to inflict area damage without any indicator for where it’s going to strike, while the latter deals direct damage to a single hero while bypassing any minions in its path. This high-velocity ability won’t require you to lead moving targets too much.

These abilities are complemented by Time Trap, which allows Chromie to place a trap on the ground that arms and goes stealth after two seconds. The first enemy hero to walk into the trap will be put in Stasis for 2 seconds, making it immune to everything—including your attacks. This ability is best placed in front of Chromie, between her and opposing heroes to buy her time to escape if they decide to pursue her.

Chromie, like other heroes, can choose from two ultimates: Slowing Sands and Temporal Loop. The former creates a vortex of sand that slows down enemy movement speed—which stacks based on how long they’ve spent inside the vortex. This skill provides Chromie with a bit of crowd control, which can be especially advantageous in team fights. The other ability, Temporal Loop, lets her mark a single enemy hero and teleport them to the location they were in three seconds prior. It’s great for stopping enemies from escaping.

Unlike other heroes, Chromie will learn every talent a level earlier than anyone else. It lets her access her ultimates a full level ahead of others.

Who should play Chromie?

I’d recommend Chromie for anyone who wants to play a ranged, damage-dealing assassin who has at least a friend or two to rely on for tanking like Johanna or E.T.C. Alone, Chromie is an easy target.

Is she fun to play?

Yes. Expect to deal a lot of damage to enemy heroes. That’s the role Chromie’s best suited for.
