Call of Duty can be great fun, when played with friends and after muting everyone else in the game that you don't know. But did you ever think that when you shot a terrorist in game, it might be a real terrorist playing on the other end? A new report suggests that might be the case.
You'll want to stifle your laughter for a second, because it's actually not quite as funny as it sounds. The report says that terrorists use the games not to relax from a long day of…blowing things up or whatever, but rather as a way to plan attacks using the chat feature, because they won't be monitored by police.
A source told The Sun: "It's a terrifying reality. These people waste no time finding a secure method of chatting. They are logging into group games over the internet and discussing terror plots. Security people know about it."
As crazy as this is, I want to put the brakes on for a second. This really seems like one of those stories that news people and politicians (read: morons) will try to bend in such a way that t makes games out to be a society-destroying evil. As if they could destroy all video games and then, somehow, terrorism would dry up as well. Let's try to keep these people from hearing about this, huh?
Besides, I'd suggest that games do the opposite. I'd like to believe that somewhere, a terrorist has skipped out on performing some horrible act because he knew his strawberries would be ripe on FarmTown when it was supposed to be going down.
