Blizzard seems to be capable of pulling off some magic on Nintendo’s mighty little console.

As shared on social media by MrBayramPlays, Diablo 4 has a ray tracing setting on Switch 2, called Enhanced Visuals. The settings page says this:
ENHANCED VISUALS
Enabled: Enhances some shadowing and reflections with ray tracing. Improves quality of other effects such as fur, hair, and fog. Targets 30 FPS.
Disabled: Prioritizes performance. Targets 40 FPS.
This setting already exists on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it’s still impressive that it was retained for the Switch 2 version.
Now, we don’t know yet how well this effect was brought over to the Switch 2. We’re also unsure how they make the effect work. Nintendo filed a patent that describes several unusual ways to upscale on the console, such as upscaling from the cloud.
But this may really boil down to Nvidia’s technology, and some effects Blizzard carried over from their PC version to the Switch 2. Performance testers will surely share their findings soon enough.
