Blizzard has officially taken the wraps off of the next StarCraft game.
They shared this description on Xbox News Wire:
From the farthest reaches of the stars, a new mission calls. StarCraft returns in 2030 as an original open-world shooter.
This announcement came with a trailer, called Dominion. Disturbingly, the trailer shows the named faction recruiting young soldiers into frenzy to fight space aliens. Fans who remember the old StarCraft games will know how this ends, as Terran Grunts are rarely the most likely units to survive a skirmish.
This confirms longstanding rumors of a StarCraft open-world shooter. However, this trailer definitively ends speculation that this was reviving StarCraft Ghost, a cancelled game about psychic espionage agent Nova Terra.
Interestingly, veteran Doom composer Mick Gordon shared the trailer. It seems he’s switched positions in Xbox from composing music for id and Bethesda to Activision Blizzard.
That’s a lot to ruminate over, but somehow it’s also hardly enough to learn about this game. Hopefully, Blizzard won’t make fans wait that long to share their next updates.
