Mark Cerny has retirement on his mind.
He was interviewed by Stephen Totilo about the Nova Games Foundation, a new nonprofit he is founding with Geoff Keighley. Cerny said this to Totilo via email:
I’m nearing the end of my career. I’m not done yet, but paying it forward—in the best way possible—is very much on my mind these days.
While Cerny has worked in the video game industry for 44 years, he is best known for having designed the hardware for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 5. The PS4’s success is largely credited on Cerny’s work to make it easy to make games on the platform, in spite of it being based on x86 architecture.
Cerny was really talking about his foundation with Keighley in this interview, but it hints at his future with PlayStation. While Sony didn’t announce the console, we know that he worked on the PS6. That could be the last game in his career.
