Nintendo and HAL Laboratory have revealed the latest Kirby 3D platformer, Kirby and the World Beyond.
The game’s trailer shows Kirby using his Copy Abilities to fight King Dedede’s minions, this time shifting from a 2D platformer to a fully 3D world. Kirby can now be seen using mid-air attacks, but we have yet to confirm if he can just float mid-air.
In the middle of the trailer, we see Kirby fling Dedede to the sky, only for the sky to break and be revealed to be a wall the entire time. Kirby destroys the wall at the end and sees that there’s another world waiting for him to explore.
So that trailer leaves us on that note reminiscent of The Truman Show, but possibly also hinting at more. Will this be Nintendo’s next big open-world game?
Kirby and the World Beyond is releasing in Spring 2027, the same year Nintendo is celebrating Kirby’s 35 year anniversary. One wonders if we’ll be seeing more of Masahiro Sakurai next year in relation to this occasion.
