Call of Duty’s RICOCHET team just admitted to a huge faux pas.

Afte eSports team OpTic tweeted that their player FormaL got banned ‘for playing too well’, the Call of Duty community management account made this reply:
Hello! We wanted to follow up on what happened after we quickly reverted his ban and spent some time investigating this situation.
RICOCHET Anti-Cheat systems flagged this account in Beta due to a unique overlap between separate detections.
The underlying issue has since been fixed. Beta is a test for our teams too – we’re actively working on thresholds and reviewing results.
As they explained, this was part of the beta testing, and so this fake ban getting caught should help RICOCHET from avoiding similar mistakes in the future.
But this simultaneously raises a lot of red flags. CharlieIntel noted as we did that RICOCHET has never admitted to issuing false bans until now. There’s been suspicions about false bans for years, but of course we can’t know for sure how prevalent the issue is independently of what Activision says.
