Nintendo’s Switch Online has received three new noteworthy games for the NES library.
The big title this time around is Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom. Directed by Masato Kato, who would go on to work at Square Enix, this game takes a surprising Lovecraft-inspired twist while featuring the same difficult side-scrolling action. Ninja Gaiden III released when the SEGA Genesis and Street Fighter II were already around, but still managed to remain memorable.
Ikari Warriors was an innovative arcade action game, with a unique rotary joystick. While the NES couldn’t possibly recreate SNK’s innovation, it still stands as one of the best ports of the game in 1986, the same year it released.
R.C. Pro-Am II is a worthwhile sequel to one of Rare’s first breakout successes. Between the two of them, this is the isometric racer you want to play today. It features better controls, real unique tracks, a new upgrade system, and four-player multiplayer.
As always, the NES library holds up with tons of great games, if you’re open minded enough to go retro on your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.
