Sony has made a surprise addition for PlayStation owners that we doubt customers will be happy about.

As explained by Hikikomori Media, games bought for PS4 and PS5 after March 2026 now have an online login requirement. Your console needs to go online every 30 days to restore the license.
Both Hikikomori and Modded Warfare have tested this and shared the results on YouTube. If you don’t renew the license by going online, you lose access to these games. They will appear with a lock icon and a message that you need to correct the date on your console.
You get access back after logging back online, but of course this is a restriction to PlayStation games that consumes have purchased. Sony have yet to comment on this addition, in the same way that they have yet to comment on the A/B testing and dynamic pricing they have implemented on PlayStation Store.
